Dr Jan Buermann

Postdoctoral Researcher – Incentives, Fair Allocation

Biography:

Dr Jan Buermann is a research fellow on the CCAIS project with an interest in the fair and efficient usage of resources in multi-agent systems. For problems in this context, Jan is particularly interested in properly including and considering agents' incentives relating to costs, participation, manipulation and fairness. An example of his work on fair electricity systems is his work on how neighbours could fairly share the electricity generated by a photovoltaic system which he considered during his PhD on resource allocation under uncertainty. Besides the CCAIS project, Jan is also involved in the Future Electric Vehicle Energy Networks supporting Renewables (FEVER) project. This project works on developing a grid-independent renewable-energy-based charging station to support green electrification. Spanning both projects, Jan applies his expertise in designing algorithms and mechanisms to problems in smart charging, energy storage and grid interaction that take users’ needs into consideration and provides efficient and citizen-trustworthy AI systems. His work thus balances fundamental and practical real-world applicable research, satisfying the needs of the FEVER project and the aims of the CCAIS project.
